SWEET INSPIRATION

In the azure blue shimmer of a sultry summer Sunday, he offered each of us one small square of the purest, deepest, richest chocolate that had ever crossed our lips. Slowly melting on our tongues, enhanced by the liquid warmth of afternoon English/China green tea; we all cried out from the wonder of this unexpected sensual delight. Our lives have been irrevocably changed forever! Such fools we made of ourselves as we begged for more. But, alas, the bar was gone.

To assuage our longing and comfort our broken hearts, he offered to read the love poem hidden on the inside wrapper,

Fly not yet – ‘tis just the hour
When pleasure, like the midnight flower,
That scorns the eye of vulgar light,
Begins to bloom for sons of night,
And maids who love the Moon!
‘Twas but to bless these hours of shade
That beauty and the moon were made;
‘Tis then there soft attractions glowing
Set the tides and goblets flowing!
O! Stay – O! Stay –
Joy so seldom weaves a chain
Like this tonight, that O! tis pain
To break its links so soon…

-Thomas Moore-

And then it says in small print:
“Continued on Raspberries in Dark Chocolate with best buy date of APR 2010.”

Torture. It has been an afternoon of pure torture!
