SUMMER WINDS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYNCHRONICITY!

Michelangelo Buonarroti
The Creation of Adam (detail)
Circa 1510

Why not make today Synchronicity’s birthday!?!
In honour of this auspicious occasion; we would like to pose an intriguing hypothesis:

Synchronicity may be the most powerful energetic current on which ‘Muse Inspiration’ travels; rippling outward in circles that become wider and wider…affecting the speed and specificity of the countless creative actions occurring within the universe.

In 1993 the writer James Redfield wrote a book that took the reader on an adventure of mysterious, sudden synchronistic events. THE CELESTINE PROPHECY begins with his ‘Author’s Note’:

"For half a century now, a new consciousness has been entering the human world, a new awareness that can only be called transcendent, spiritual…perhaps you already sense what is happening, already feel it inside.

It begins with a heightened perception of the way our lives move forward. We notice those chance events that occur at just the right moment, and bring forth just the right individuals, to suddenly send our lives in a new and important direction. Perhaps more than any other people in any other time, we intuit higher meaning in these mysterious happenings.

We know that life is really about a spiritual unfolding that is personal and enchanting – an unfolding that no science or philosophy or religion has yet fully clarified. And we know something else as well: we know that once we do understand what is happening, how to engage this allusive process and maximize its occurrence in our lives, human society will take a quantum leap into a whole new way of life – one that realizes the best of our tradition – and creates a culture that has been the goal of history all along.

…If it touches you, if it crystalizes something that you perceive in life, then pass on what you see to another – for I think our new awareness of the spiritual is expanding in exactly this way, no longer through hype nor fad, but personally, through a kind of positive psychological contagion among people.

All that any of us have to do is suspend our doubts and distractions just long enough…and miraculously, this reality can be our own. "

His words are a stunning reminder for all of us to unleash the power of our personal Muse today!

One hypothesis inevitably leads to another.
We will ponder the question:
Regarding our current exploding cyberspace communication phenomenon: Is this Destiny’s gift...given to celebrate a perpetual birthday party for Synchronicity?

WE THE PEOPLE

Muses to Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin
History You Probably Did Not Learn In School…
The Iroquois are five Iroquoian-speaking tribes: The Mohawks, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca. (The Cherokee also belong to the Iroquois language family of eastern North America.). They controlled a large territory east of Lakes Ontario and Erie in the north-east woodlands and were sophisticated horticulturalists that raised maize (corn), squash and beans; supplementing their diet by gathering and hunting in the woodlands of the region. They lived in distinctive communal longhouses, made of bent saplings covered with bark; some of these structures extended to 300 feet in length.

At least 300 years prior to the passage of the United States Constitution; North American democracy began with the Iroquois Confederacy’s Law of the Great Peace. This representative democracy of the Iroquois was extensively studied and praised by Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin who proposed it as the basis for the United States Constitution.

In a back-handed compliment at the Albany Congress in 1754, Franklin said he found it hard to believe that the 13 colonies could not agree to a political union when,

Six Nations of ignorant savages had formed one.”

It begs the question: Who were the 'ignorant savages'?

Unwittingly, the Iroquois Confederacy served as the most influential of Muses...in this case affecting the course of history. We must never underestimate the power of anyone we meet; no matter what 'label' we give them, they may inspire us to magnificence.

Flowering Trees of Cairns (1994)

Flowering Trees of Cairns (1994)

For the Love of Art
A Muse who leaves us a legacy of spiritual beauty and bloom’in abundance!

Do you ever buy a card that speaks to your heart so much that you just can’t part with it? Such is the case with the above card produced by Leanin’ Tree. After ten years, the edges are a bit dog-eared but I remain mesmerized by Darryl Trott’s art; particularly now that I have discovered Key West! This piece could have been painted in a dozen locations throughout the Keys yet it was inspired and created in Australia. On the back of this Leanin’ Tree card is a testimonial written about Darryl many years before his untimely death on 9th June 2004 following a heart attack,

“One blustery day in Australia, Darryl Trott, with a roll of paintings under his arm, felt the wind holding back his bicycle as he rode to his job as an advertising designer. In his frustration, Trott realized he also felt stymied in his career and so, he resolved to leave his job and concentrate on painting. Largely self-taught, Trott is still perfecting his style of depicting the exotic and everyday blooms he paints.

Luscious tropical orchids sparkle with dew and perky, spring crocus thrust up from the barren ground. Each painting explodes with a mass of blooms. Darryl Troll believes that flowers should be painted in their natural habitat, as their subtle shades of color alter when they are cut. The artist maintains a home in the United States but spends much of his time painting in his retreat near the rain forest in Australia. Trott explores the infinite variety of flowers found throughout both countries, in cultured gardens as well as open fields.”

Limited Edition prints of Darryl’s work are still available.
If you google his name, several sites offer his work.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS

These were the children who lived 'THE GOOD OLD DAYS'.

This is a photo of Frontier Schoolmistress, Blanche La Mont standing proudly with her students in Hecla, Montana. Often these Frontier teachers were only a little older than some of their students. Many of them faced the Herculean challenge of being the only conduit of education in a new and expanding nation.

We received an amazing E-mail from Len Walderich yesterday; he writes,
“This ought to boggle your mind, I know it did mine.”

The year is 1900, [100+7] years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are the U.S. statistics for 1900:

*Average life expectancy in the U.S. was forty-seven years.

* Only 14 percent of homes had bathtubs.

*Only 8 percent had a telephone.

*It cost $11.for a 3-minute phone call from Denver to New York City.

*There were only 8,000 automobiles in the U.S. and only 144 miles of paved roads.

*The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

* Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state.

*The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

*The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents an hour.

*The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

*A competent accountant could expect to earn $2,000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

*More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home.

*90% of all physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."

*Sugar cost four cents per pound, eggs were fourteen cents a dozen and coffee sold at fifteen cents a pound.

*Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

* Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering their country for any reason.

*The five leading causes of death in the U.S. were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

*The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.

*The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was 30.

* Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.

*There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
*One in ten U.S. adults couldn't read or write.
*Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from High School.

Here’s a favorite:
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drug stores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and the bowels, and in fact is a perfect guardian of health."

*18% of households in the U.S. had at least one full-time servant or domestic.

*There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.

WOW!

ANOTHER RIPPLE OF ATTITUDE

ATTITUDE
By Charles Swindoll

The longer I live,
The more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude to me is more important than…
The past,
Education,
Money,
Circumstances,
Failures,
Success,
Than what other people think, or say, or do.

It is more important than…
Appearance,
Giftedness,
Or skill.

It will make or break an organization, a school, a home.

The remarkable thing is...

We have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.

We cannot change our past…
We cannot change the fact that people will act a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have,
And that is ATTITUDE…

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
AND SO IT IS WITH YOU…

THE MUSE OF LOVE

Leo Buscaglia
1924-1998
http://www.buscaglia.com/

We had the good fortune of learning about Dr. Buscaglia over twenty years ago. He was the ‘Mother Theresa’ of USC (The University of Southern California). We can’t recommend his books and lectures enough.

Here is a morsel from Dr. Buscaglia’s work that speaks to the power of being a Muse:

The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor. But that does not lessen our possible impact, for there are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word , a listening ear, an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring; all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It’s overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt.

The mission of this blogposium is to INSPIRE.
If we touch only one life during our lifetime; we have tasted the nectar of success!
